Sun Valley Ski Club

The Sun Valley Ski Club was founded by W.A. Harriman in 1936, the same year the Sun Valley Resort opened as a destination resort. The club was established not only for the enjoyment of its members, but also to host races at the new resort. The first race was in March 1937 and was called the Sun Valley International Open. This race attracted the top skiers from around the world and later was known as the Harriman Cup. This race began at the top of Baldy and ended at River Run Area. The route often included Ridge, Rock Garden, and Exhibition and only had a few control gates to assist if weather was not so great.

Membership to SVSC includes community support of recreational winter sports and Masters Ski Racing. We are a Not-For-Profit that supports year round mountain living. The SVSC goal is to continue promoting life in the mountains with events for members and friends. The SVSC brings members and families together for monthly gatherings at dinners, wine tastings, hiking, snowshoeing and picnics. SVSC members share mountain activity stories and support local athletes with opportunities to learn to ski and ride. We mentor, share and provide a link to the history of skiing and snowboarding in the Wood River Valley.
